Springer was Harburg's final collaborator during the last years of Harburg's life. Philip Springer was the great E.Y. "Yip" Harburg's last collaborator prior to Yip's death in 1981. Yip, of course known for writing the lyrics to "The Wizard of Oz", "Paper Moon", "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" and countless classics. Springer and Harburg wrote about 15 beautiful songs together.
"Time You Old Gypsy Man" is one of their most beautiful songs, called "a masterpiece" by the Steve Holden of the New York Times in December 1989. Many famous artists turned it down, owing to the meaning of the song; how fast time goes by and all of a sudden our lives are nearing the end....
